WRITING

Recently Mr. Williamson and I have been collaborating on the 3rd nine weeks research paper.  Each student should have a self selected topic and have already started taking notes….we discussed “How do researchers take good notes?” in ELA class and research time was given in Science class.

We moved to “How do writers organize notes for paragraphs?” and “How do writers draft from notes?”.  These concepts seem to have helped the class feel successful in beginning to write the paper itself.

Next week we will be drafting, conferencing, editing, and revising.  Hopefully, we will have final drafts by the end of the week.  These papers will be scored and submitted to the state for documentation of NC Writing Assessment Pilot.

READING

Cores 1, 2, and 4 began reading Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbit, as well as other connected readings.  There will be quizes to check for reading comprehension throughout the novel.  The first quiz will be on Chapters #1-5 and will take place for core #1 on Monday and core#4 on Tuesday.  The students will also be filling out a “Flow Map” while reading which can be used on the open book quizzes.

Our 1st AR book is due MONDAY, February 1st!!!

Read 180:

We just started a new workshop #6 on Poe, it is a bone-chilling unit of scary stories and poems…the class is very excited to start!  We also began new novels in small groups.  The first AR book will be due FEBRUARY 12th.  The other 2 books required to meet the AR goal are due March 5th and March 26th.  These will be grades added to Bulldog Grades, stay updated!
